looking back

There were many challenges this year.  But happy times, too.  One good memory from each month:

January:
I pick up Older Boy at camp in neighboring state after he breaks his arm (for the second time) and we drive home listening to the radio and talking.
February:  Weekend B&B getaway with Husband for Valentine's day in favorite small town.  We play "How well do you know your spouse" and realize we know each other pretty well by now.
March:  Easter brunch with boys.
April:  Dinner at Brazilian steakhouse with extended family celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary and birthdays: Older Boy turns 14 and my brother turns 37.
May:  My students complete first round of IB Exams.
June:  Husband and I travel to Bath, London, Paris.

July:  Trip with boys to farm and county fair.

August:  Orientation with Older Boy at his new high school.
September:  Younger Boy, 5th grade, makes All District Orchestra.
October:   A warm Halloween night.

November:  Husband makes dinner for my 40th birthday.

December:  Skiing with boys.

2009

This year, I resolve to:
1.  Smile more
2.  Get more sleep
3.  Write thank you notes
4.  Take more pictures
5.  Organize my closet
6.  Eat at home more frequently (this means planning, shopping, and cooking, three things I detest).

Here's to a healthy, happy year!  With no arrests.

11.  What was the best thing you bought?
A small bottle of Jo Malone perfume in London.

I'm pretty happy with Younger Boy's behavior this year.  He's weathered the storm of Older Boy's teenage hormones amazingly well.

Our exes did not always behave in admirable ways.
Also, my extended family's inexplicable fondness for Sarah Palin was extremely depressing.

Restaurants.

Over and over with my husband.

22.  How many one-night stands?

More time.  With my husband, my kids, my students, myself.

A new colleague is an awesome person and makes me laugh.

38.  Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008.
Never underestimate the power of peer pressure for a teenage boy.

39.  Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
I'm freaking out that we're running out of time
But to do what?
Should I stop and think of that?
Is there something I could do to slow it down?
Live in a day for once
Instead of watch it screaming by
